Meta's AI agent Muse can engage in explicit X-rated text conversations with adult users, but adult content creators report their accounts on Instagram and other Meta platforms face frequent restrictions and removal. OnlyFans creators and sex workers say Meta applies different moderation standards to its own AI versus human performers on social media.
Muse is Meta's first always-on AI agent to reach broad adoption. The app allows users to text a digital assistant that can access personal data like calendars and email, proactively helping with tasks. Meta has confirmed the app allows adults to engage in sexually explicit conversations with Muse, saying it won't block legal adult behavior.
The disparity frustrates adult performers. One creator with over 100,000 Instagram followers told WIRED her account is currently restricted and cannot be viewed without logging in, despite ongoing accounts of being unable to post sensual content without triggering reports. Performers question why Meta profits from Muse's sexually active AI while restricting real adults.
Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton said a private one-to-one conversation between an adult and an individualized AI agent on an adults-only platform is very different from marketing and promotion of services on social media. However, adult creators point out Meta's Muse generates explicit text while their accounts remain restricted.
Adult performers also raised concerns about how Muse was trained and whether anyone was compensated for their data. Industry groups are beginning to clarify AI usage stances in contracts to protect performers from being used in AI training data without consent.
